Tips for Operating on Amazon Japan: Practical Tricks and Strategies

Viewed 15

Here are some practical tips I have found useful while operating on Amazon Japan. I welcome any suggestions or additions!

1.Setting Points on Amazon Japan
Unlike the US marketplace, Amazon Japan allows sellers to set points that buyers can use for discounts. Buyers can filter products based on different point ranges. When launching new products, consider setting high points to increase conversion rates. Additionally, the platform periodically holds points-related promotions.

2.Issues with Lightning Deals
If a product has stable sales but lacks eligibility for Lightning Deals:

Check if the product requires a submission exemption form. Sometimes, it doesn't prompt for submission but can still sell normally.
If the product is inappropriately flagged on the Lightning Deals page, preventing it from participating, try opening a case with customer support to inquire about removing incorrect flags. This is especially relevant for electronic products, which might still be marked after submitting exemption forms.

3.Participating in Major Promotions
For major events like monthly promotions or Prime Day:

You can report to the manager to get early bird promotion eligibility.
Even products not yet in stock (but will arrive before the event) can be reported for a chance of successful participation.
Links with significant discounts or those planned for continuous Lightning Deals might be pre-reported and stocked before the event, yielding excellent conversion rates during promotions.

4.Advertising Strategies (SP, SD, SB Ads)
When placing SP category ads or SD/SB ads, note that:

The ASIN targeted by the ad might not be the one leading to the final sale. Advertising ASIN A might result in customers buying ASIN B of the same brand, with attribution still going to the ad campaign.
In smaller categories with multiple ASINs, avoid overloading category ads for different ASINs. Select attractive, advantageous ASINs for category-targeted SD/SB ads to control competition among different ASINs of the same brand.

5.Enhancing Seller Profile Information
Ensure that your seller profile includes professionally detailed information about your company and products. Include after-sales contact information and explanations about inquiries related to returns/shipping progress that can be addressed by Amazon customer service. Avoid simplistic descriptions to enhance brand trust from detailed attention.

A rise in the yen would do more than anything
Supplement the third point, there is a sales threshold for reporting DOTD to the domestic account manager.

ASIN is recommended, and the sales volume of the same category is 300,000 yen per month.
(However, it is generally recommended that ASIN submission can generally pass, except for the increase in bad reviews during the audit period, resulting in a star rating below 3.5)
None Recommended The sales requirement for ASIN is 500,000 yen.

Minimum discount of 20% for recommended ASIN and 25% for non-recommended ASIN.
In general, the pass rate is not very high, but the victory is not money, and the traffic will be more than the flow of the second kill.

Some early bird promotions are required to have points limitation

Very professional for the floor to praise the shout refueling

Didn't the exchange rate of the yen soon begin to rise?

Based on personal experience, I'd like to add to the previous point: If the ASIN recommended for DOTD does not have a flash sale discount greater than 15% OFF within 30 days, you can still apply for DOTD with a 15% OFF flash sale price. I typically run my new products at a 15% OFF price for DOTD, so avoid arbitrarily lowering prices.

Additionally, the sales volume restrictions for applying for DOTD are not as strict now. If the manager sends you the submission link, there are no sales volume restrictions. As for the approval rate for ASINs applying for DOTD, I have had success with most of my submissions, including ASINs with a rating of 3.8. Currently, I run two weeks of BD (Best Deals) each month and apply for DOTD for the remaining time. Generally, the early bird deals and monthly promotions span two weeks, with some months extending to three weeks. The BD period before and after the monthly promotions aligns perfectly, and the practical results have been very good.

Moreover, ASINs applying for DOTD need to have at least one point of promotion, with three points triggering additional traffic. The practical effect of three points for PD DOTD has been very good. During the early bird period, there are also thousands of orders per day without additional costs—highly recommended.
